This course is a rare opportunity for those interested in Korean studies in the respect that there are seldom discussions about the Korean aesthetics. Through this course, students are expected to understand the Korean tradition of aesthetics is based on the harmony with the nature. This course particularly sheds lights on the naturalism and the humanism embedded in the artistic activities of Korea.

'Korean Philosophy Contents' is an applied philosophy field that deals with various problems to practically extend Korean philosophy to real society, without isolating it as a pure theory in the ivory tower. This course facilitates students to learn the basics of convergence research, develop educational and cultural contents related to Korean philosophy, and analyze data using digital methodologies. Students will learn the use of various databases related to Korean culture and philosophy, digital technologies, and archiving techniques. By doing so, students will be able to develop more in-depth content or seek ways to develop it as a new research topic from the traditional philosophical knowledge found in classical literature materials and various forms of philosophical thought inherent in modern Korean culture.

This course aims to develop student’s academic writing abilities by exploring research achievements in the fields of Confucian philosophy, Eastern philosophy, and Korean philosophy. To this end, students will learn first how to identify the main concepts and issues in Confucian philosophy, Eastern philosophy, and Korean philosophy. Based on this, students can develop their logical thinking, skill for logical organization and writing. Successful completion of this course will increase students’ ability to study advanced courses in Confucian philosophy, Oriental philosophy and Korean philosophy and develop their ability to explore their own research tasks.

This course aims to explore a new paradigm for studies on Confucianism, the role of Confucian studies as digital humanities, and the convergence of digital technology and Confucian studies by combining theory and practice. In the digital age, humanities knowledge can be processed into digital data. Using these data, knowledge can be restructured in a whole new way, and new methods of research can be derived. This course aims to provide an opportunity to learn new ways of research on Confucian studies and encourage students to apply directly to their research. In addition, this course explores the role of Confucian studies as an axis of digital humanities and the future of Confucian contents created by using digital technology.

This course aims to provide the theories and methods of humanity education, Based on the philosophy formed on the basis of the East Asian classic 《Mencius》. Therefore, there are two themes. First, analyze the characteristics of the doctrine of the Prophecy that the blind said. Second, we would like to analyze the difference between the theory of the Prophecy of the Mencius in different time and space, focusing on Songmyeong-ri in China and Joseon Confucianism in Korea.

This course is to write a thesis in humanities and social science field using Python. This course is for writing thesis using big data for research in the humanities and social sciences. Basically, students will learn how to write a thesis, and implement a program in Python as a research methodology for thesis. Students will learn how to write thesis using Python, which is the most suitable for processing humanities and social science related materials among programming languages ​​and has excellent data visualization. Basic research methodology for thesis writing will be covered first as theoretical lectures. Methodology for selection of topics will be discussed also. Once a topic is selected, a lecture on how to organize related research will be conducted. In the next step, students learn how to write necessary content according to the research methodology. Then how to suggest further discussion along with how to organize bibliography to complete a theoretical approach. The basic Python grammar is covered for data analysis using Python, and the process for input data processing is conducted. After learning how to install and use the required Python package in each research field, the actual data processing will be practiced. To prepare for the joint research, learn how to use the jupyter notebook as the basic environment. Learn how to use matplolib for data visualization and how to use pandas for big data processing.

Four consecutive courses of will train graduate students of various majors such as Korean Studies, East Asian Studies, Social Sciences, and History of Science, to cultivate the ability to comprehend original texts written in Chinese characters of their own major field. This course is not just training students in comprehension of the texts, but also cultivating the ability to identify the bibliographical characteristics of the material and linguistic characteristics of Classical Chinese written, which eventually will lead students to perform more scientific understandings of Classical Chinese texts. will cover texts of Canon(經) among traditional classification methods, Canon(經), History(史), Teachers(子), Collections(集). Students will obtain a general understanding of Canon texts with bibliographical knowledge, and develop comprehension by understanding the transformation of the texts over time and characteristics of Classical Chinese writing determined by detailed classification, which overall enhances the literacy of classical chinese texts.
