1940’s
  • The foundation of Sungkyunkwan University under the academic system of 哲政科, 經史科 based on Confucian Studies (1946)
  • Establishment of Department of Eastern Philosophy (1948)
1950’s
  • Master’s course (1953) and Doctorate course (1957) established in Department of Eastern Philosophy
1960’s
  • Construction of ‘Yanghyungo’ as a succession of ‘養賢庫’, the academic organization of Goryeo dynasty (1960)
  • Promotion of Department of Eastern Philosophy to College of Confucian Studies and establishment of Department of Confucian Studies and Department of Philosophy under the college (1967)
  • Renaming of ‘Yanghyungo’ to ‘Yanghyunjae’(1968)
1970’s
  • Alternation of affiliation of Department of Philosophy from College of Confucian Studies to College of Liberal Arts (1979)
1980’s
  • Establishment of Department of Korean Philosophy and Department of Eastern Philosophy under the College of Confucian Studies to have a total of 3 departments, Confucian Studies, Korean Philosophy and Eastern Philosophy (1981)
  • Establishment of Special Graduate School of Confucian Studies, and set up an open course for Confucian leaders (1988)
  • Establishment of Master’s course in Department of Confucian Studies (1989)
1990’s
  • Establishment of Doctorate course in Department of Confucian Studies (1991)
  • Start of the undergraduate studies system followed by the establishment of College of Eastern Philosophy and Confucian Philosophy, Korean Philosophy and Chinese Philosophy major under the college (1996)
  • Agreement of partnership concluded with Higashi Nippon International University (JAPAN) for exchange of studies (1996)
  • Renaming of College of Eastern Philosophy to College of Confucian Studies & Eastern Philosophy (1998)
  • Agreement of partnership concluded with Peking University (CHINA) for practical exchange(1998)
2000’s
  • Department of Eastern Philosophy selected as one of the BK21 organizations (2006)
2010’s
  • Host of International Academic Conference of Confucianism by SKKU and International Federation of Confucian Studies (2010)
  • Reorganization of College of Confucian Studies & Eastern Philosophy as Department of Confucian Studies & Eastern Philosophy under the College of Confucian Studies (2012)
  • Establishment of Eastern Philosophy/ Culture Research Institute (2013)
  • Department of Eastern Philosophy selected as one of the BK21 plus organizations (2013)
  • Department of Confucian Studies & Eastern Philosophy under the College of Confucian Studies selected as one of the universities of CK-II program (2014)
  • College of Confucian Studies and College of Liberal Arts associatively selected as one of the CORE organizations (2016)
  • Observation of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of College of Confucian Studies (2016)
