| In this course students at first examine the historical texts of the original Korean thoughts that suggest us to consider the origin of Confucianism as old Korean blood, Dong-i. The texts to be read include the Sam-kuk-yu-sa and the Sam-kuk-sa-ki, the earliest texts providing informations of old Korean thoughts and the rise of Confucianism in Korea. On this basis, students are required to understand the rise of Neo-Confucianism in late Koryo and the fruits resulted from the studies of Korean scholars, especially those eminent; Toegye and Yulgok, and the practical learning of Chosun, Sil-hak. Students may broaden the discussions to seek for the modern application of traditional Korean thoughts and their appropriate transformations to be fit to the rapidly changing modern society. | |||||||||
