The 2023 Overseas Korean Philosophy and Culture Exchange Program was held at Beijing Normal University and Beijing Foreign Language University from December 18 to December 21, prepared for the overseas expansion and exchange of Korean philosophy and culture at the University of Foreign Studies (President Kim Dong-min).
Hosted by Sungkyunkwan University's Overseas Studies University, the program was conducted for a total of three nights and four days with Professor Kim Dong-min, Professor Yoon Seok-min, and Professor Ahn Seung-woo participating as leadership teachers, and 16 students selected through document and interview screening among graduate students, students majoring in Oriental Studies and multiple majors. He visited Beijing Normal University and Beijing Foreign Language University, and completed the overseas Korean philosophy and culture program after cultural experience activities such as visiting various attractions where he can learn Beijing's culture and history and eating local food.
Beijing Normal University visited the philosophy university and had a university visit, student presentation time, and group communication time. Students from Sungkyunkwan University's international university had time to introduce the university and present philosophy practice and philosophy education methodology in Chinese, and Beijing Normal University also held a time for students to present on the same topic.
Beijing University of Foreign Studies visited the Department of Korean Language, where they had a campus tour, a school library tour, student presentation time, and exchange time. In the same way as Beijing Normal University, students from Sungkyunkwan University of Foreign Studies presented Korean culture and Confucian culture research methodology as well as introducing foreign universities, and Beijing University of Foreign Studies also had a presentation time on the same subject by students. Beijing University of Foreign Studies prepared the groundwork for true cultural exchange through continuous communication and meetings, rather than a one-time event by having time to communicate with Korean language students through an evening schedule.
A total of 20 participants, including leadership teachers, assistants, and students, had a great opportunity to introduce Korean philosophy and culture abroad, and prepared various things to make this program more substantial through group meetings and general meetings in advance. It was a program that laid the foundation for our students to grow into international researchers in the future by directly experiencing Beijing's research level.
Participants who participated in the program said, "I was able to understand culture by directly interacting with Beijing's university students," "It was good to see where foreigners find attractive to our culture by presenting it directly to Korean students studying Korean culture," and "I was able to blend in and interact with my classmates from various academic backgrounds, and I was able to understand the facilities and systems of Beijing University firsthand."
The video of the above program, which lasted for three nights and four days, is uploaded on the website of Sungkyunkwan University's study abroad university and on the official YouTube account of Sungkyunkwan University.
