Professor Kang Kyung-hyun of the College of Confucian Studies and Eastern Philosophy publishes <Toegye Lee Hwang’s Li Philosophy>
Kang Kyung-hyun, a professor, recently published his book Toegye Lee Hwang's Philosophy-jiseon(지선) Realization and Self-Completion. This book reveals that Toegye Yi Hwang's philosophy, which was active in Joseon in the 16th century, aims to lay the foundation for moral human beings who aim to realize "jiseon(지선)" around the concept of "Li(리).“
In this book, it is said that by examining the meaning of "Li as a Mandate of Heaven," the level of understanding of Toegye-ri philosophy can be diversified, and the value-oriented nature of Toegye philosophy can be read consistently on the meaning of "Li's command.“ Furthermore, this book says Toegye believed that practicing human morality follows the order of Li(리), and that moral practice carries out moral commands originating from the human own mind.
This book was published by revising and supplementing the doctoral thesis submitted in 2014. Professor Kang Kyung-hyun is currently working at Sungkyunkwan University's College of Confucian Studies and Eastern Philosophy, and is conducting research on Joseon Confucianism and East Asian Confucianism through the figures AND ideas of Joseon in the 16th century, including Toegye Lee Hwang.
