Daoism and Buddhism deeply influenced East Asian culture. Since Buddhism was introduced to East Asia, the basic framework of East Asian philosophy, namely “Three teachings harmonious as one” was formed, instead of the previous phase of Confucian monopoly status in Han dynasty. In this course, students will learn the interactive history of Daoism and Buddhism, grasp their basic tenets, and examine the development of Daoism and Buddhism in Korea.
